Biting midges spread germs that cause animal and human disease, but they are stubbornly difficult to manage. A new proof-of-concept study shows that silver nanoparticles—minuscule bits of metal at the scale of billionths of a meter—are an effective insecticide for killing larvae of the biting midge Culicoides sonorensis.
