Frontline workers are being honored during the fight against COVID-19. Below, Rentokil and Freedom Pest Control share how their teams are making an impact.

Rentokil’s Hometown Heroes program

Through a program called Hometown Heroes, Rentokil North America colleagues from the United States and Canada have been giving back to frontline workers including healthcare professionals, senior care facility workers and first responders.

More than 108 Rentokil teams and districts participated in the Hometown Heroes program, choosing organizations in their own communities to say thank you. The teams developed care packages, lunch for staff and homemade cards from colleagues’ children.

“We have seen extraordinary examples of bravery and sacrifice from healthcare and first responders on the frontline of this pandemic,” said John Myers, Rentokil president and CEO. “Our colleagues have expressed the desire to support our local communities, and it’s our responsibility to give back. I’m proud of our colleagues’ commitment to their communities and enhancing the lives of those who are giving so much during this time.”

More than 8,100 people on the frontlines across the country have been impacted by the Rentokil outreach. A Boston, Mass.-area team set up a station at Boston Medical Center to give out more than 600 plants to healthcare professionals. The team also purchased items on the wishlist of Healthcare for the Homeless to make sure the organization was prepared for the summer rush.

Another team chose the Environmental Services team at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, working to keep the hospital clean and safe.

Chris Gibbs, regional director at Rentokil, had teams throughout South Florida give back, including one team worked with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., to provide lunch to the healthcare staff.

“It is a humbling feeling when you see the challenges of those in our communities during this time,” Gibbs said. “That’s what makes Hometown Heroes a truly special program. Our company has core values of ‘Protecting People and Enhancing Lives’ and it is great to see that living out in our local communities as we unite to give back to those Hometown Heroes.”

Freedom Pest Control provides meals to local nurses

Freedom Pest Control, based in Merrimac, Mass., celebrated National Nurses Week by donating more than 400 meals to nurses in local hospitals.

At the suggestion of Amanda Ross, development manager of the Anna Jaques Community Health Foundation, Freedom Pest partnered with Abraham’s Bagels to provide morning meals for the outgoing night shift.

During the same week, Freedom Pest’s President Tom Drapeau personally delivered midnight meals and dessert to the nursing staff of the COVID-19 treatment wing at Beth Israel Deaconess.

“We are so grateful for the work that nurses do,” Drapeau said. “They have been on the front line of this crisis, protecting all of us.  When we heard back that food would be a great way to show appreciation, we were pleased to provide over 400 meals in total to local nurses.“

The nurses made a lasting impression on everyone at Freedom Pest Control, prompting a decision to provide evening meals on an ongoing basis to the nightly Beth Israel Deaconess staff.

“Every delivery we have sent has simply made our hearts soar, to know we are providing sustenance for this remarkable group of health professionals,” said Norma Howie-Ballway, office administrator, Freedom Pest Control. “We have decided it will be nurses month.”
